DESCRIPTION:Discover new work by Wendy Letven in the lobby of 200 Liberty Street inspired by the vibrant sunrises and sunsets on the waterfront at Brookfield Place. The artwork captures the mysteries of the cosmos and our place within it.\n\n  \n“The sun has long been understood to be one of our most powerful and universal symbols of life. It is also our greatest source of energy. These two qualities converged in my mind as I developed the artwork\, fueled by the dramatic sunsets I have seen at Brookfield Place. Besides references to time\, change\, the moons and planets beyond\, other motifs in the work are representations of the waterfront at high and low tide and the spectacular palms of the Winter Garden. As a public installation\, the exhibition will stand daily as a reminder of the dramatic colors of both sunrise and sunset\, as well as the mystery of the cosmos and our place within it.”\n\n– Wendy Letven \n\n\nAbout the Artist\n\nWendy Letven is a multidisciplinary artist who is best known for her bold yet intricate sculptural cutouts. Currently she is working on a permanent ceiling sculpture for the lobby of PS at Schermerhorn\, funded by New York City’s Percent for Art program. Wendy has created public works for The Riverside Park Conservancy\, Brookfield Properties\, Summit Public Art\, Art on Paper Fair\, Market Art and Design\, and The Sheila R. Johnson Gallery at the New School among others. She is represented by galleries in New York\, San Francisco\, Boston and Rotterdam with paintings and sculptures in private collections across the globe. Wendy was recently awarded a fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts\, is a MacDowell Colony Fellow and a recipient of a Workspace Grant from Dieu Donne Papermill in New York. Raised in Philadelphia\, she received a BFA from Tyler School of Art and an MFA from Hunter College. She teaches Art and Design at Montclair State University in New Jersey and at Parsons School of Design in New York.
